I am a writer and editor, not a laboratory. My job here is to read the evidence so you do not have to: Consumer Reports' published results, RTINGS' test list, CNN Underscored's hands-on guides, Which?'s tested models, and the federal guidance from the EPA and the CDC that almost nobody in this category bothers to quote accurately.

What I bring is a method and a willingness to be boring about it. Every humidifier gets the same five checks. Every brightness-style marketing number gets labeled with how far to trust it. If a listing says 40 to 60 percent humidity and the EPA says never above 50, I print both and tell you which one I follow.

What I will not do: claim to have tested machines I have not, repeat medical claims from a box, print a struck-through price I cannot verify, or rank by Amazon stars. If a product on this site has no independent test behind it, the card says so in the first line of pills.
